The Integrated Home

Show Notes

In the UK, the home technology industry is facing tough recruitment times. Too much work, not enough staff is a familiar cry. So, what can be done about it? Well, apprentices could be one part of that solution.

The theme for National Apprenticeship Week which begins on 7th February 2022 is ‘Build The Future’. In this episode, we find out how that theme relates to our own sector and look at practical advice and experiences to help businesses from Matt Nimmons, CEDIA EMEA's Managing Director, Chhaya Landschultz from integrator, IndigoZest and Natalie Little from training provider, Skills4Stem.

We're grateful to our series partners AWE Europe, Sony and Distributed by Meridian for their backing. We support Together For Cinema.

The Home Security Opportunity

How big an opportunity is home security for technology integrators? A home burglary happens in the UK every 106 seconds. The Office for National Statistics puts the average cost of a residential burglary in the UK at £3,030, and more than one-third of that is the emotional cost to victims. Experts also agree that we are likely heading for an increase in property crime, driven by economic desperation and the stress associated with long-term unemployment. In this episode, we talk to two integrators who work extensively with home security, Steve Moore from SMC and Michael Glarvey from Luuxx Audio Visual. We also learn about what's involved in growing your home security business, how to do it well and where the pitfalls might be.
